The Tango Peninsula, located in the northern part of Kyoto Prefecture, facing the Sea of Japan, is Japan's largest producer of silk fabrics with 1,300years history. They produce high quality fabrics for both Japanese and Western clothing with traditional techniques and new development efforts.
The famous fabric named "Chirimen" , a kind of crepe silk , the technique of which have been established 300 years ago in the Edo period ,and even today, 70% of Japanese fabrics for kimono are woven in this region. Through the accumulation of technologies over the long years and research into new technologies for weaving and processing, They will continue to provide new modern silk fabrics.
